WEEK 14: Artist Conversation- Emily Babette

IMG_2307This week in the Gatov Gallery, I got to see many artists’ art work. They all displayed their work together and had a list of who did what painting. I was attracted to Emily’s work because of it’s  gothic look. Sadly I didn’t get to meet the artist, but it did not stop me writing on her work. IMG_2311

In her painting she used lots of dark colors giving it the gothic vibe. The materials she used were charcoal, arches oil paper, oil paint and wood panels. She wants her viewers to have a psychological reaction. She views her work as magic realism. Her work showed an evil side of a human being, such as an alter ego.IMG_2309

She uses this gothic style to give it an eery feeling. As you stare at the paintings it seems as if they are looking into your soul. They have such realistic figures. Since I didn’t get a chance to know more about the artist I still found her work to be very inspirational and interesting.

I personally liked her paintings because they looked really cool. You could tell she put time and effort into her work. It would be really cool if I got painted in a gothic style. I would like to see how that would turn out.
